YOUTH AT THE BOOTH

Youth At Booth
Kids Voting will again coordinate Youth at the Booth for the Franklin County Board of Elections (BOE), and we welcome your participation in this meaningful civic activity for the May 4, 2010, Election.

A record number of students participated in the November 2009 election, and we encourage those students to participate again.  However, it is important to note that there is a set number of poll workers required in Franklin County, and Ohio law limits the number of 17-year-old Youth at the Booth students.  We don’t anticipate having to limit your numbers, but please understand that it could happen.  (It is possible that 18 year-old students could participate as adult officials, but that would require that they attend another training.  We may work with this possibility if numbers warrant.)

We need just two things for each student by FEBRUARY 25, 2010.  We need:

  • PERMISSION FORM for each student.  Please note the changes on this form.  Please stress to your students that they MUST agree to be available to work at ANY polling location in Franklin County.  Please do not submit the form if either the parent or student is unwilling to comply.
  • VOTER REGISTRATION for each student (Instructions are attached “Link to Voter Registration”).  If the student is already registered, please DO NOT complete another form. Check “Already Registered” on the Permission Form.  (Copy of the proof is not required).

The following forms and information can be downloaded in PDF format.

  • Important Dates [PDF]
  • Parent Permission Form [PDF]
  • Link to Voter Registration and Instruction [PDF]
  • Blank Voter Registration form (for those who cannot complete the online form) [PDF]
  • Directions to check Voter Registration [PDF]
  • Key Points and Implementation Steps [PDF]
  • Election Day Form [PDF]

All students are REQUIRED to attend training (2-1/2 hours).  It is essential that students fully understand and accept the responsibilities associated with this opportunity.

Students MUST work the entire day from 5:30 a.m. until they are excused, which will be at least 8:30 p.m.  Schools with more than 20 students participating can arrange training at your school building.  Where there are fewer than 20 participants, those students will be required to attend our Saturday training.

Thank you for encouraging your students to participate in Youth at the Booth.  We encourage all students to register to vote (even if they are not participating in Youth at the Booth).  Note that if a student is 17 but will be 18 by election day, November 2, 2010, they are eligible to register to vote and can vote on candidates but not issues in the May 4th Primary Election.
